KDP Wedding Season Kicks off in two weeks!!

Wedding season will kick off for Kat Donovan Photography in just two weeks.  This year is the year of travel!  We have a few weddings and engagements close to home, but this year will find us traveling all over the United States.  Needless to say we will be knockings some states off our list of states to visit list.  It's very exciting!

Below are our dates and locations (so far) for this year.  We will also be looking to book some extra sessions on some of these trips.  So keep your eyes open for details about that!!

Love in the Rock: Brittney and Daniel's Engagement Session

Brittney and Daniel found me via social media shortly after the first of the year.  When we discussed locations for their engagement session, the Old Mill was top on their list.  Arkansas had been experiencing Spring like temps since our great snow the second week of January. The Old Mill would be perfect....and we were not the only one's that had that thought!  Upon arriving, We made the quick decision to move the session to the Clinton Library.  I sweetened the deal by offering a waterfront location for the sunset portion of the session!

Brittney and Daniel met many many years ago through friends.  They now have a puppy and a home they will soon move into and share together. I cannot wait to capture the beginning of such a beautiful story!

Free Fallin': Cate and Paul's Engagement Session at Two Rivers Park

When I asked Cate how Paul proposed, this small smile slowly spread across  her face.  For a moment, she looked off into the distance and said..."Well..... you see.."

Long story short, Paul popped the question one night under the stars at a pool that he and Cate had borrowed from some friends.  Her ring was her great great grandmothers.  Their wedding will be in June at the beautiful Park on the River in Maumelle, AR.  Rumor has it there will be yard games and a fish fry.

For their Engagement session, I wanted to keep the theme of Arkansas in the outdoors and embrace the beautiful fall weather we have been experiencing.   My new favorite location is the Two Rivers Park in Little Rock, AR.  It has large open fields, huge trees covered in vines and the sunsets are breathtaking.  Cate asked how should they dress, I said, like themselves :)  The session was fun and effortless.  No awkward moments and not a bad picture in the bunch.  And we were photobombed by deer!

Congrats Cate and Paul!  I cannot wait for June 2016!

This was actually a test shot.  But they just nailed it!

First Official #ProjectWarPaint Image has been posted!

It is with much pride (and a bucket of nerves) that I have posted the first portrait for #ProjectWarPaint.

The Image can be found on the #ProjectWarPaint Blog Page....but I'm going to share it here too!

The point of the project is to celebrate our natural and made up faces.  My shooting and editing approach has also embraced that it is very simple.  No touch ups and basic color corrections.  Cannot wait to post the rest of the phase one images!

Chicago: My home away from home.

There are very few large cities that I have visited more than 2 or 3 times.  I've been to New York City twice.  I have been the Orlando probably 5 or 6 times.  I have been to Dallas and Memphis more times than I can count....but those are within spitting distance of Little Rock, so they hardly count.   St. Louis is one I have visited 5 or 6 times.  Paris I have visited twice...though it was in the same trip :)

But Chicago...Chicago is a city that I have visited 2-3 times a year for the last 13 years. Every time the place feels more and more like home.  People are always shocked that a girl from the south that work her way around a metro system and the downtown streets (ok...that sounds way worse than what I intended).

I hardly have to think of a reason to just get up and go to Chicago.  But this past weekend found me there for two reasons: #ProjectWarPaint and the beautiful wedding of Rani and Jeff!

I met up with a fellow photographer who was taking part in #PWP and we decided to explore Downtown Chicago.  I experienced my first City Target and Rooftop Bar.  We parted ways and I wondered down to Navy Pier.  I wanted desperately to recreate some photos I took back in winter of 2013.

One day I'll retire in Chicago, but for now I'm happy to spend long weekends taking photo walks and soaking up the awesomeness!

This is one of the images I wanted to recreate.  I'm super happy with how the image on the right turned out.  Both images were edited with a VSCO Film Preset.
